“If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” — Luke 9:23 NKJVFollowing Jesus sounds easy. But when you think about what He is really asking of us, it is much more than just believing in Him. He is asking us to walk the same road He walked. And that road asks something of us every single day.
It Starts With Daily Surrender.
Every morning when we wake up, we have a choice. We can live for ourselves, or we can give the day to God. Surrender is not a sign of weakness. Its one of the bravest things we can do. It means saying, “God, my plans and my wants come second to Yours today.” Jesus showed us how to do this in the Garden of Gethsemane when He prayed, “Not My will, but Yours, be done.” That kind of surrender doesn’t come easy. It has to be chosen again and again every single day.
It Continues With Daily Obedience.
Obedience is where faith becomes action. It moves out of our hearts and into what we do. Living our lives like Jesus means loving everyone, including the not so nice people in our lives. It means telling the truth even when it is tough. It means being there for others even when we are worn out.
Jesus did not just teach the Word. He lived it out in simple, everyday moments. He reached out to those no one else would touch. He forgave those who hurt Him. He served others without expecting anything in return. That is the kind of life that obedience builds in us.
It Is Sealed With Daily Commitment.

Some days, following Jesus will cost us something. Our pride. Our comfort. Maybe even family or perhaps a friendship. Taking up our cross is not something we do just once. It is a daily choice to keep going no matter what.
And here is the good news. We do not walk this road alone.
God gives us new strength and new grace every single day to keep moving forward following Jesus. Walking in the footsteps of Jesus is not about being perfect. It is about being faithful. One day at a time. One step at a time.
Take the next step today. He is right there with you.
