WHAT IS YOUR SOUL HUNGRY FOR?
Proverbs 27:7 [NKJV] ... “A satisfied soul loathes the honeycomb, But to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.”There are times in life when our soul becomes hungry.
We may still pray, still come to church, still worship, and still carry on with our daily responsibilities—but deep inside, there is a longing that we cannot quite explain. Sometimes it comes through disappointment, through weariness, perhaps loneliness, or a season of waiting.
And when the soul is hungry, we can easily reach for the wrong things.
Proverbs reminds us that hunger changes what we are willing to accept. Looking in the natural, when our tummy is satisfied, even the sweetest honey won’t appeal to us, but when we are truly hungry, even something bitter can seem sweet and satisfying to eat.
Isn't that sometimes so true of our spiritual hunger as well?
When our hearts are not resting in the Lord, we may look to other things to fill the emptiness—people, possessions, recognition, success, entertainment, or simply staying busy. They may give us temporary comfort, but they cannot satisfy the soul.
And perhaps that is where some of us are today. I want to remind you today, if your heart feels empty, don't run from God—run to Him.
You don't have to come before Him pretending that everything is fine. But you can come just as you are. Bring Him your weariness, your disappointment, the questions you don't have answers for. Bring Him your heart, and allow Him to fill all those empty spots.
Jesus gives us this beautiful promise in Matthew 5:6 [NKJV] ... “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.” What a comfort that is. God is not disappointed by a hungry heart. He is moved by a hungry heart.
So today, take a quiet moment and ask yourself: “Lord, what is my soul really hungry for?”
The things of this world may satisfy for a moment, but only Jesus, [the Word] can cut through layer upon layer, and reach the deepest places of our heart, and truly satisfy the soul.
Hebrews 4:12 [NKJV]... “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”Prayer
Lord Jesus, You know the hunger in my heart. You know the places where I feel empty, weary, and disappointed. Forgive me for the times I have looked to other things to give me what only You can give. Draw me back to Yourself. Teach me to hunger for Your presence, Your Word, and Your righteousness. And as I come to You, fill my heart with Your peace, Your grace, and Your love. May my soul find its deepest satisfaction in You. In Jesus' name, Amen!
